Jasenovac Memorial Mossarium is a desktop diorama: a 3D-printable miniature of the Jasenovac Spomenik, set in living moss. It is free to download on MakerWorld.
What it is
The Jasenovac Spomenik is a brutalist monument built in 1966 by the sculptor Bogdan Bogdanović, in memory of the victims of the Jasenovac concentration camp during the Second World War, in what was then Yugoslavia. Known as the “Stone Flower”, it rises solemnly in an open field, in a poetic contrast of concrete and nature.
This miniature is meant to evoke the same contrast: the stark modernist form of the monument together with soft, living moss, a contemplative piece of living history for a workspace or a home.

How to make the mossarium
- Prepare the base. Add a layer of soil or terrarium mix in the base, compact it gently and position the Spomenik.
- Add moss. Place patches of fresh moss around the base and around the model, pressing lightly so that they touch the soil. Use tweezers to shape the moss as you prefer.
- Water lightly. Mist the moss with a spray bottle to settle it and keep it humid.
- Maintain. Keep the moss moist and in a well-lit place, but not in direct sunlight. Occasional misting keeps it green and lush. From time to time cut the excess growth, as a relaxing break.
Collecting moss responsibly
Beautiful moss can often be found in shaded, humid places: behind buildings or garden walls, at the base of trees, on shaded stone or concrete.
- Always harvest small patches and never strip large areas.
- Avoid protected parks or forests unless it is permitted.
- Keep harvested moss in an airtight container until it is replanted.
